More than just gel...

Do you ever wish that you could go back in time and relive the good moments that you once had? Ever since you left that’s all I wish I could do. If I could go back to the time when we were together, I would do it in a heartbeat. Its been almost a while since you went away and yet I still sit here thinking. My friends have told me a thousand times to get over you. Heck, even I have told myself that I should. But why can’t I stop thinking about you? There are times when I think about you and wonder if you still think about me and what we had.

I’m still sitting here thinking what I did wrong and how I wish I could just snap my fingers and make everything better. There were so many things that I wish I could have done, but I can’t reflect on the past. I know I told you that I would never bother you about this ever again, but you left me so fast and I don’t feel like I was able to tell you everything that I was feeling inside.

When we were together I wanted so much for you to be happy that I would have done anything. Being with you was like a dream that I never wanted to wake up from. However with every dream comes an ending and unfortunately mine didn’t turn out the way I expected it to. When I was with you I was better, now I honestly don’t know what to feel.

Its hard to see you now. Knowing that you moved on so fast makes me think that I didn’t even mean anything to you. It makes me think that I wasn’t worth being with you. When you see me I smile at you and act like nothing is wrong, but you don’t see the pain that I’m hiding. For the smile that you see is just a mask that covers the scars that you left me with.

I’m not writing this for your sympathy. This has just been bottled up inside me for a while and I thought you needed to know.  I thought that you needed to know that I still think about you the way I used to. As much as it hurts, I still do. Though we went our separate ways, I still wish I could go back and relive those times that we once had. Even if it was only for a minute, I would do anything to be with you again…

Have you ever heard the phrase Nice Guys finish last?

Sometimes I wonder about this little statement. Growing up I remember my mom telling me to always treat women with respect. She made it sound like women were on the top of this hierarchy of the human race. So I made sure to treat everyone with respect because I didn’t want to come off as that insensitive pig that you see in movies and television shows.

For some of you who know me fairly well, you know that I like to joke around a lot. While it may seem like I come off as a goofball, those of you who know me fairly well should know that I still respect all of you…I hope :)

Now I don’t wanna appoint myself as a “Nice Guy” (because I think its a good thing and what kind of civil human being rejects modesty and blurts out what a nice and caring person he is) but if people see me as a nice person then I feel like I’m doing my job.

Before we dive into this whole conversation I want to break things down for the way how I see things. There are three types of guys in society…

1) The Dick: This is your cocky, cool and rugged guy. These are the guys who say whatever they want to people with the up-most confidence. They are usually attractive with a physique that you would only see on an Abercrombie & Fitch ad. Dicks are usually hit-it-quit-it type of guys, meaning they are mostly in it for sex. They are very outgoing and love the party setting. If the Dick wants a sandwich, he will not even hesitate to tell his woman to go make him one. Personally, I don’t like to associate myself with those types of guys and I try to be everything that they are not.

2) The Joe: This is your typical guy. I call this guy the Joe because he is pretty average in terms of looks and personality. A majority of guys fall into the category of the Joe. Joe’s tend to be a heck of a lot nicer than Dicks, but they still have that certain knack with women that the Dicks possess. They don’t say the rude and cocky things that Dicks do but they still have a good amount of confidence and humor that cause them to attract girls. Joes are usually in steady relationships that can either last long or end within a few months. I don’t have anything against Joes, in fact a lot of my friends are Joes and I applaud Joes for the type of person they are.

3) The Nice Guy: Very few guys fall into this category. The Nice Guy is your quintessential “Aww, how sweet” guy. Nice guys are usually very awkward and quiet at times. They will go out of your way to make sure that you get what you want or that everything is going okay. Girls usually get attached to Nice Guys, but not in the way how people think. Girls like to think of Nice Guys as just friends because they know that they will always be there for them. In other words, the Nice Guys usually have trouble finding a good relationship. They usually get thrown into the deadly Friend Zone. This doesn’t mean that they don’t end up with a girl, it just means that it takes them a longer time to do so.

This brings me to the wonderful title of this blog. While being a nice guy seems like a good thing and something to be proud of, it doesn’t necessarily have a positive effect in the dating world. This makes me wonder. In my observations and personal experiences I’ve noticed that a lot of women tend to go after guys who are not nice guys. In fact, they prefer the total opposite. Girls tend to prefer the Dick, or guys who are overconfident, good-looking, funny and mean. Woah woah, lets rewind back to the last characteristic I just mentioned, MEAN. Why is this? Why do girls like mean guys? What is it about mean guys that attracts the ladies.

When I was a kid I was told that a lady likes someone who is nice and respectful to them. If this is the case then why is it that girls always seem to prefer mean guys over the Nice guys? Why do girls even prefer Joes over Nice Guys? I honestly don’t get it because I have seen many cases where girls have been deeply hurt by these mean guys and even some Joes. Why do girls allow themselves to experience that kind of pain? Its the same kind of situation as a woman who is a victim of domestic violence. Why does she keep coming back to the husband?

How many times has this happened to a Nice Guy when the girl that he likes is involved. As a Nice Guy you just sit on the side and listen to the girl vent to you about how mean her boyfriend is. While you listen to them and do everything you can to help them you also sit there and wonder, “If only you were with me, this would never happen, because you and I both know that I would never treat you that way.” Of course you and her would never know because you guys are “Just Friends.”

Guys and girls are “very” different. Speaking as a guy I can honestly say that overall, guys just want a nice sweet girl. You could say that guys prefer “Nice Girls.” If guys prefer nice girls, then why can’t it be the other way around? Its the complex mind of the woman that baffles me every time I think about this issue.

I personally don’t know why Nice Guys finish last, but if anyone does know please inform me. This topic has been on my mind for a while and I still would like to know…
